Am I That Obvious?

So, my 30th birthday was a couple of weeks ago and there seemed to be a recurring theme with my cards and gifts…

Apparently the dog blog, fostering, and working at an animal shelter made it very easy for my friends and family to pick out gifts for me… so, what did I get?

Perhaps my favorite gift from Daniel was this t-shirt from Sirius Republic.

It is incredibly soft, fits perfectly, and of course, shows my love for the pitties! Oh, and the very sweet gift certificate from Jen at Sirius tucked in with the shirt was pretty awesome, too!

My friend Miranda from Tails from St. Simons Island sent me this adorable monogrammed tote from Molly Mutt! I’ve already used it to tote Moby’s toys to and from work… it is the PERFECT size!

When we got our Fit, I begged Daniel to let me put a pit bull window decal on it and he resisted for several months… but he finally gave in with this adoraBULL decal from Dog Park Publishing. I think it looks a bit like the Turkeyman, don’t you?

I also got this very cute little treat container and noms from one of my rescue friends… but really, that’s more of a gift for the Mobisher, Turkeyman, and Rufus, no? But seriously, it is really cute and the PERFECT size for noms.

Okay, so there was one gift I gave myself… a bulldog speaker from Urban Outfitters! It was $9.99 and I was turning 30 so… I’d say I deserved it, right?! Surprisingly, the sound is actually pretty good. And Daniel and I have been using it to jam out when we’re cleaning the house. And it is just so dang cute!

So that’s about it. I’d say my transformation to crazy dog lady is officially complete, huh? But that’s alright… I loved every single one of my presents…  no matter how much of a crazy dog lady it makes me!

Moby Wonderdog here! Can you keep a secret? Shhhhh! I’m a super hero!

While you guys may know me as Moby Wonderdog by day… by night I am Captain Moby: Defender of the Nom-less and Protector of Fellow Orphan Dogs!

You see, I didn’t know I was a super hero at first, but my friend Jen at Sirius Republic did! She sent me this collar with my super hero name on it and wouldn’t you know it? My super hero powers just came out of me like magic!

Now when I put on my super hero collar, I can sense when noms are near and make them magically go into my mouth! And when I hear about fellow orphans who need help, I use my super hero powers to get Foster Mama to help them out in any way that she can. See? I’m a super hero! Capes make it hard to run, which is why my collar is so perfect!

Do you have a super hero dog? If so, you might wanna get them a super hero collar right away so they can fully realize all of their super hero dreams! Leave a comment below and tell me what would your dogs super hero powers be?

XO,

Captain Moby Wonderdog

PS – I’m still available for the adoptions! Email Foster Mama at {ourwaldobungie@gmail.com} if you’re interested (and why wouldn’t you be?)!

PPS – THANK YOU to Jen at Sirius Republic for sending me my awesome collar – you are the most awesome friend EVER!

PPPS – My bro-friend Corbin is a super hero too and is blogging about today! Go read about it!

Recently I attended the Strawberry Swing Indie Art Market.

There were lots of amazing vendors at the event, but I hit it off with one vendor in particular: Dani from Be Good Natured.

Dani’s wool animals instantly stole my heart… and Dani was pretty awesome, too. We chatted, exchanged emails, and I binge read her blog. She agreed to answer some of my questions and even has a good deal for you at the end… now… let’s get to the questions…

You work at a zoo. What is your favorite zoo animal and why?
Well, my favorite animal at the zoo where I work is Henry the Hippopotamus. Hippos are such enormous and fascinating animals.  And Henry is just so cool!  (I even took some wedding dress photos with him!) For treats, he eats whole watermelons and pumpkins!  My absolute favorite animal (which is not found in my zoo) is the naked mole rat. They’re not pretty, but they are SO neat!
What made you start felting?
Well, my husband had just introduced me to Etsy back in 2010.  I was exploring the infinite listings when I saw something made out of needle felted wool.  I was intrigued and HAD to learn more!  So, I did some research, ordered a starter kit, and I was hooked!

What is your favorite felt/animal character that you make?
I’m a big fan of my zombie chicken.  I giggle every time I make one.

You have dogs of your own. Tell me a little about them.
YES! We have two dogs: Elphie, a  Weimaraner, and Luna, an English Setter.  Both dogs were adopted from local shelters.  Elphie (a.k.a. Elphipotomus, Elphie Lou)  is seven and has calmed a bit as she has grown older.  She “talks” a lot to us, making hilarious noises trying to tell us what she wants (or doesn’t want.)  Luna (a.k.a. Pickles), on the other hand, is a crazy dog.  She loves to run and stalk squirrels and chase bunnies and hop after moths and…you get the picture.  She is an incredibly sweet dog, and we are lucky to have found her.

Have you immortalized your dogs in felt yet?
Sadly, no. Actually, I’ve wanted to try a wool “painting” version (like these) of a pet portrait, so I’ll probably practice using my pups as subjects.

You seem to love gnomes as much as I do.  Tell me about that.
Well, I might have a history with gnomes.  I may or may not have been involved in a series of gnome snatchings in high school….  Regardless, they are super cute and fun to felt.

Isn’t Dani so fun? Seriously, if she didn’t live in Springfield, MO, I would already been attempting to make her one of my best friends. As I mentioned before, Dani makes these amazing felt custom pet portraits… and you know how much I love custom pet portraits.

So, of course, I was super psyched when Dani immortalized adorable adoptable Moby Wonderdog in felt.

I mean, are you serious?! She got his pink nose… his pointy ears… his epic tongue… she even got his little white spot on his back! It’s absolutely perfect! Now I’m thinking that my former fosters need to be immortalized in felt too, no? But wait… remember how I said there is something in it for you? Dani is pretty generous and offered up one custom felt pet portrait for one of you lovely readers! Enter the Rafflecopter Giveaway below…but if you want to forgo the giveaway and just order a custom felt pet portrait right away, Dani also offered up a 15% off coupon code CUSTOMPET that is good through September 30th. I told you she was cool.

When you’re a Moby Wonderdog, you spend a lot of time in the water.

After spending so much time in the water, it became clear that Moby’s regular collars weren’t just going to cut it anymore.

For water doggin’, Moby was going to have to get sirius Luckily, Jen from Sirius Republic knew just what Moby needed – the latest S.R. innovation – the Water Dog Collar!

The water dog collar is different than the typical Sirius Republic collars because they are WATERPROOF and dogs can do ANYTHING in them and they never get dirty. Like, never, ever, evvvvver get dirty!

And guess what else? They are durable with 1,000 lb break strength, anti-microbial, flexible in freezing temperatures, and UV protected. They are low-maintenance and hygienic, because if your pup rolls around in something nasty, you can just wipe it off… nothing soaks into the collar! You know what that means, right? They don’t stink either…ever.

I’m going to be perfectly honest with you guys… I  am OBSESSED with this collar. It might be my favorite Sirius Republic collar yet. It just looks so, so good on the Mobisher!

Oh, and I almost forgot to share my favorite part of the collar…

The tag is part of the collar! OMG!!!!! I can hardly contain myself. I love how the attached tag allows for one less piece to potentially fall off in the water… besides, it just looks so freaking good. Can you handle it?!

The Mobisher can’t handle this water doggin’ collar!

Well guess what? Jen from Sirius Republic is so generous that she didn’t just send Moby a collar to test out, but she also offered up not one, not two, but THREE collars for three lucky readers! To win a collar for your water dog, just thank your lucky stars that Jen is so awesome and then enter the Rafflecopter giveaway below!

** Jen from Sirius Republic generously sent Moby a water dog collar in exchange for an honest review. The thoughts in this post are my own. THANKS JEN!

We are dog bed aficionados around Casa Hawkins. But our newest bed takes the cake as far as dog beds go. I mean, its so comfortable, I would curl up on it! Friends… let me introduce you to the BuddyRest Deluxe Orthopedic dog bed. The BuddyRest bed is made of 4.5 pound high quality True Comfort® visco memory foam made right here in the U S of A!

Since Turk and Rufus are approaching elderdog status, I’ve had to start thinking about purchasing items that will make them more comfortable as they age. Rufus recently was diagnosed with bulging discs in his back and with as many walks as we’ve been giving Turk lately, his bones and joints have been getting quite the workout.

Why would their health issues affect our choice of dog bed? Well, the BuddyRest Dog Bed is veterinarian recommended because it relieves arthritis pain and reduces joint stiffness. According to their website, “BuddyRest beds conform to your animal’s body, evenly redistributing their weight across the surface. This eliminates the painful pressure points on their joints and hips. Memory foam is a proven technology that decreases pain and stiffness in your animal.” Yep. It’s like Dr. Scholls, but in bed form!

And while lots of dog beds claim to be the best, they don’t even compare to BuddyRest…and while all the joint relief and arthritis relief and awesome sleep for the pups stuff is awesome, I also love that there are a few perks for me too, such as:

  • Stays clean
  • Doesn’t smell over time
  • Doesn’t break down or get dips
  • Chew resistant
  • Prevents bacteria
  • Repels hair, stains and odors
  • 100% Waterproof
  • Keeps pet at optimal temperature
  • Easy to spot clean or machine wash

When this bad boy arrived, I’ll admit, I was a bit intimidated. At 33 x 40 inches, it looked like a baby’s mattress. The dogs actually were a bit freaked out by it at first, too. But after a little while, the dogs claimed it as the prized bed of the house. Turk can now be found lounging on it on any given day, and Rufus has even been known to forgo the top of the couch for the BuddyRest.

Besides all the health benefits and ease of cleaning, the thing I like the best about the BuddyRest bed is that you just buy one and you are DONE.

One BuddyRest bed will last for your dog’s entire lifetime. So while the price is a bit spendier than the typical pet store dog bed, you are getting the highest quality and since you are only buying one, you are actually saving money over time. And who doesn’t love saving money? Oh, and the beds are backed up with a 10 year warranty. That’s unheard of in the pet products industry.

So needless to say, we are big fans of the BuddyRest bed. Annnnnnd they are made just a few hours down the road from Kansas City in Wichita, KS! So do yourself a favor and check them out… especially if you have an elderdog… you won’t regret it!

** Our friends at BuddyRest were kind enough to give us a deluxe orthopedic bed to review. While we received the bed for free, the opinions in this review are our own. **
