Why I Cannot Take a Selfie with Moby

“Selfies” are like the thing nowadays. According to Urban Dictionary, a selfie is “a strange phenomenon in which the photographer is also the subject of the photograph, in a subversive twist on the traditional understanding of the photograph. Usually conducted because the subject cannot locate a suitable photographer to take the photo, like a friend.” I constantly see posts on Facebook from friends doing selfies in front of iconic locations around town, with celebrities (even semi-celebrities of the reality show kind – I took one with one of the stars of season 2 of The Glee Project!), or even, weirdly in the bathroom. Because Moby is such a cuddlebug, I’ve been attempting to get a selfie of the two of us… but a variety of things always ruin the photo…

Faces don’t line up.

Moby decides to eat my face. (just kidding – he was going in for a lick but it does look like he is trying to eat me, huh?)

Licking commences. I dissolve into giggle fits.

Moby starts nibbling my ear, which is so weird.

As you can see, all of these shots don’t result in the serene, loving photo of Foster Mom and Foster Dog that I am hoping for. Even if I get a halfway decent photo of me, I still look like I am in a daze (maybe that’s just what my face looks like?), and Moby is bee-bopping around somewhere in the shot, but not looking at the camera at all, or he is trying to attack my face with kisses or nibbles. Not ideal for a proper selfie.

I did manage to snag a couple of decent photos yesterday, when both Moby and I were home sick. Although he still wouldn’t look at the camera, he was feeling extra snuggly (perhaps because he didn’t feel well?), so I took advantage and nabbed a few that definitely show how close he and I have become in the 7 months since he bounded into our lives…

Snuggle Monster.

Will you rub my eyebrows, Foster Mom? My tummy hurts.

Love you forever.

So while I may never have the perfect “selfie” of Moby and I staring blissfully into the camera screen, I’ll forever cherish the outtakes I get in pursuit of that one perfect photo…
