One Couple + Two Dogs = Our Waldo Bungie

Where’s Scooby Doo when you need him?!?

October 7th, 2009 | Posted by Emily in Bungie vs. Squirrels | Fall fun

I have a mystery that needs to be solved!

I came home from work to find that one of the planters on my front stoop, which once looked like this:

Now looks like this:

Shocked and appalled! What kind of person/place/thing would take down a pretty ornamental kale in it’s prime? Daniel & I discussed hiring a P.I., but alas, there was no Dave Ramsey envelope money for that, so we’ll just have to buy another mum for that pot get along without it. Plus, I get bored easily, so the idea of staking out the front stoop to see if the perpetrator comes back to the scene of the crime is just a little bit too much work for my taste. But still, I’ll miss that kale.

I hope your day is going better today!

The pot does look tragically empty. So much for decorative vegetables.

I’m not sure what it is about ornamental kale, but I can grow it in my garden all summer and my dogs couldn’t care less. But as soon as it starts getting cooler, they dig it up and eat it. I think because kale is a cool-season vegetable, it has something to do with the sugars in it when it gets cooler outside. Anyway, somehow my dogs know that the kale is going to taste good, and then it’s gone. I suspect you have a critter to blame for your empty pot!

  • Yep, I think it’s a ornery squirrel who is the culprit – I think it’s the same squirrel who keeps taking little nibbles out of our decorative pumpkins on our porch. Boo squirrels!
